With just four ingredients, this is probably the easiest dessert I’ve made. It was my great grandmother’s recipe, and growing up, my family has always loved it. Who would guess that you could just layer cherry pie filling, crushed pineapple, cake mix, and butter, pop into the oven, and come out with something amazing?

What is a Dump Cake?

  • We always laugh at the name “dump cake”, I mean- can we all agree that there’s got to be a better name? But at this point, people have been using the name for decades for the simple fact that these recipes are just a matter of dumping just a few easy ingredients together to make the most delicious cakes!
  • Most of the dump cakes that I have tried involve spreading pie fillings into the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish, followed by a layer of cake mix. Top it all off with sliced butter and into the oven it goes! As it bakes, the juices bubble up and the cake mix transforms into a cobbler-like crust.
  • Extra ingredients can be added if you’d like to play around with flavors like chopped nuts, coconut, and more. You can also easily swap in one pie filling for another or change the flavor of cake mix!
