The BEST Baked Apples
Have you been searching for the best baked apples recipe? Look no further. I’ve got you covered! I love apples in all of their natural goodness, but throwing in a little cinnamon, brown sugar, and butter never hurt anybody!
In fact, these baked apples are so good I would even call them life changing. Haha
So let’s not waste any more time and get to slicing!
How to make the BEST Baked Apples:
- Start out with 4-5 Granny Smith apples. Peel and slice to about a 1/4 inch thickness. For me, the easiest way to get uniform slices is to use an apple corer to make your wedges, and then slice away the peel & slice each wedge into thirds.
- Add cornstarch to your cold water and stir to dissolve. Set aside.
- Next, melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat and add/coat your sliced apples, stirring constantly. Cook until apples are just tender. (about 6-7 minutes)
- Add the cornstarch/water mixture to the skillet.
- Stir in sugar and cinnamon and bring to a boil for about two minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve while still warm.
Baked apples are such a comforting side dish, with just the right balance of tartness and sweet. I love them no matter what the season, but especially in fall and winter. In fact, this is one of our family’s go-to recipes for Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings.
Baked apples paired with ham or pork is a match made in heaven! You know what else is a match made in heaven? Baked apples over vanilla ice cream. Ahhhh…. Now this is a versatile dish.
Next time you are craving baked apples, I hope you’ll try this recipe! It’s the best. By the way, steer clear of softer or sweeter apples–I tried this recipe with several different types but granny smith was the clear winner! SO delicious.
Also, be sure to check out our FAVORITE Apple Crisp recipe! It has the same amazing flavor as the baked apples, but with the added bonus of a buttery, crumbly oatmeal & pecan topping.
